|
| Walking
round the beautiful sleepy little harbour of Amlwch Ports inner quay
it's hard to imagine the noise and industry of its past. It's history
as one of the busiest ports in Wales made all the more remarkable
by the fact that it was never meant to be a port at all! |
| It's
unusual harbour walls enclose a port with a rich history. The ships
from its yards were some of the finest ever built, its quays teemed
with sailors and dockers, as tons of ore sailed out and tons of coal,
timber and tobacco sailed in. The hub of a trade between Wales, Ireland
and England and further still to the distant Americas. This peaceful
place has seen it all! |
| During
your tour you can explore the extraordinary story of the port through
the eyes of your guide. Hear the tales of the sailors and the sail
makers, hear about the tobacco trade and the copper trade, the ingenious
buildings and the shipyards. Even the modern users of the Port, the
fishermen and Mersey Pilots. |
